CMM 2: NMR spectroscopy for biomolecular and materials characterization

CMM 2: NMR spectroscopy for biomolecular and materials characterization

Supervisor:  Prof. Kay Saalwächter
Event Date: tbd
Venue: tbd

This module provides a conceptual and hands-on introduction into the basic principles of NMR spectroscopy, focusing on technical aspects and options beyond simple high-resolution spectra interpretation. The participants will learn about the function of modern NMR spectrometers and about the principles underlying modern pulsed NMR (spectrometer function, Fourier transformation), building on an introduction into the physics basics. The practical part is divided into two parts, the first one set up to familiarize oneself with the inner workings of pulsed NMR, and the second one introducing specific methodological areas: polymer mobility by 1H low-field NMR relaxometry, basics of imaging as well as diffusion experiments using pulsed field gradients.
